“How many miligrams of THC does it take to get high?”
That’s difficult to say. Since you’re asking about milligrams, you are asking about edibles or tinctures.
Medical users could easily require 100 mg of THC, without CBD, (because that will counter-act the high from THC) to get any sort of a buzz but people not experienced should likely start at 5 or 10 mg and wait for at least an hour before taking more.
Most people would probably settle in at about 20mg of THC for a mild buzz if they aren’t using cannabis regularly, especially if you’re planning on enjoying a couple of drinks as well.
In my opinion, that 300mg in that other answer would be most unpleasant for most recreational users, though, it won’t kill you or harm you, more than causing you to sleep and likely freaking you out.
No, cannabis isn’t scary, it’s the unfamiliar feeling, once you realize that, unlike alcohol, you are in control. But, everyone is different so, what makes you happy and high, could be really scary for someone else.
If you’re smoking or vaping cannabis, the most effective ways to ingest cannabis is measured by % content of THC and the other major medicines in the plant. Novice users should look for something no more than 10% THC to start, to see how that works. If that makes you uncomfortable, try to find a strain with around equal CBD and THC as a starting point, and use it, one puff at a time til you get where you want to be. Edited In my experience and observation, most people won’t get high from a 1:1 THC:CBD cannabis but it will likely not be unpleasant, then you can start to drop the CBD content or raise the THC content.

A gram of marijuana is 1000mg of total plant matter. If we’re talking about average street weed, about 10% of that gram is thc/thca, so if smoking a whole gram you would be getting 100mg thc. This is way too much for a lot of people. For a beginner, 1/10th of a gram of weed and even slightly less should be enough to have a pleasant experience — so at most 10mg of thc. You will likely notice affects around 3mg thc, or 1/30th of a gram of weed though.
If you’re talking medical grade 20% thc weed, you’re obviously going to want to cut those amounts in half, ie 1/20th of a gram for a beginner.
With thc, you also want to be ingesting other cannabinoids like cbd, cbn, cbg, as well as terpenoids for what is known as the entourage effect This will vastly improve the high. Cbd — Cannabidiol — for example has been found to negate the negative social and emotional side effects of pure thc in mice (cbd “modulates” thc in some fashion). Rest assured all weed has varying amounts of these compounds. There is no specific amount required for the best high. Just make sure you aren’t taking pure thc isolate unless you’re experienced and specifically seeking that out for a certain effect.
You have to take into consideration that “Milligrams” is a measure of weight, not necessarily potency..
Anytime 1000 Milligrams of something = 1 gram.
the % of THC needs also needs to be taken into account when speaking about MG’s or milligrams –
200 MGs of something that carries say 20% THC – like cannabis flower for instance – is NOT the same as say 200 MGs of Shatter or Distillate – which can contain upwards of 50%-90% THC content.
you would need less MGs of the 50%-90% product than you would something that contains only 20%
MGs are only half of what you want to consider when thinking about how much it will take to get you high – Consider potency % as well
I recently got a 1000 mg vape.
its thick like molassrs and lightest blonde amber color.
anyone know about this?
The average joint contains about a third of a gram of cannabis. This is about 333 mg. Typically, anywhere from 10% to 20% of cannabis consists of THC. This means the average joint contains anywhere from 33 mg to 66 mg of THC. Let’s cut that in half and say the average joint contains about 50 mg of THC. A certain percentage of that will be destroyed by heat (pyrolysis) and an even bigger percentage of that will go off in sidestream smoke. Overall, only about 20% to 37% actually gets inhaled into your lungs. Lets say about 25% of the THC actually gets inhaled. That means about 12.5 mg of THC actually gets inhaled into the lungs when you smoke an entire joint. Even if we assume 100% of the inhaled THC actually makes it into the bloodstream (I highly doubt that’s the case), that means 12.5 mg of THC will be coursing through your veins after smoking an entire joint.
On the other hand, if you consume an gummy with 10 mg of THC in it, about 70% to 80% will make it into the bloodstream (it must pass through your digestive system and be processed by your liver to get there). If we assume 75% of the THC will get into your bloodstream, that means you’ll have about 7.5 mg of THC coursing through your veins after eating the gummy.
If you just compare numbers, you can say the average joint would get you a little under twice as high as a 10 mg edible. However, the high I get from an edible is always far more intense (more akin to a psychedelic acid trip), so for me this comparison isn’t really applicable, in my opinion. Hope this helps.
Things might get a little strange, and that’s completely normal. Remember that THC can be a psychedelic substance, especially if eaten, and especially if taken in such a large dose.
A lot of people think that they are going to die, or that they’re losing touch with reality.
This is completely normal to feel this way. If any of those fears come up, remember that they are just thoughts that arise in the mind as you go into deep meditative states of consciousness.
You’re going to be fine.
I’d recommend talking to someone you trust, relax, and focus your attention outward. You might notice that there’s no fundamental difference between what’s outside your mind and what’s inside your mind.
It’s just an experience. Allow everything to happen. Passively watch your thoughts and feelings and let everything play out. If you notice anything that’s trying to hold on, allow yourself to let go and just feel whatever is in front of you.
Remember to stay hydrated by intermittently drinking some cold water.
Have a light snack as well. Also, I’ve noticed that yawning is helpful for promoting relaxation and peace of mind, probably because of the way it stimulates the vagus nerve.
Lastly, there’s a myth that eating black peppercorns is helpful for sedating the high. Not sure if this is true, but it’s worth a try. And try vaping some CBD. This is also effective for promoting relaxation.
First off, I would if I were you see if you can find a vape of cbd only just in case what you are about to experience is too intense. I also took a lot of thc one time accidentally. You are just going to feel everything more. THC basically slows down the signals from your senses to your neurons. What that means is you feel more. Sound, touch, and taste are all amplified.
Some people hallucinate, some people pass out. If you pass out because it was too much, good night. You’ll wake up just fine. Some people get a surge of anxiety and paranoia. If that happens, you won’t be able to sleep, I suggest dancing. Dancing feels good and moves thc away from your brain and towards and throughout your body. You release a lot of feel good chemicals and thc will amplify that. Play some loud music and dance your pants off.
If the experience is too crazy vape your cbd pen and that should bring you back down pretty quickly. CBD will block binding spots on your neurotransmitters and lower your high to a more acceptable level. 400 mg of thc in edibles can be intense if it really is that much. Blackmarket edibles vary widely in thc, some can be less, some can be more than what the package states.
I know of an instance where two police officers ate a 1000mg thc chocolate bar between them while waiting on a stakeout. Both officers called 911 and felt like they were having a medical emergency. One was so out of it he climbed a tree. The other was lying on the ground. So if you really did have 400 mg, good luck.
